This medieval and historic village sits on the banks of the river Aude and nestles in a valley surounded by tree lined mountains rising to a height of 750m. The views are spectacular and explains why it is a local favourite with tourists. It is a Spa town and sits on one of the largest natural sources of water in France. The water of Alet les Bains is one of the oldest sold mineral waters in France, first bottled over 120 years ago.
With a population of approx 500 people it is a lively village that benefits from being near to one of the main routes into the mountains and Cathar trail. It is close to Rennes Le Chateau. It is one of the recommended Cathar sites boasting an impressive history. With its own station and a direct line into Limoux, Carcassonne and Quillan it is ideal if you don't fancy driving!
